Originally crafted from gold, the material changed to stainless steel when Rolex began manufacturing the more affordable Datejust watch for their 40th anniversary in 1945. The bracelet itself has undergone minor design changes over the years; from the introduction of the five-piece link design in 1945 to the wave design in the mid-1950s and the changing of the type of clasp used on the Jubilee bracelet in 2015.
As of 2018, Rolex had removed the Jubilee bracelet from all steel sports models bar a newly-released GMT-Master II, as well as introducing ceramic into the links to increase durability and minimize stretching. Despite these cosmetic improvements, the Jubilee Bracelet remains largely unchanged from it’s initial 1945 design and maintains it’s status as one of the most luxurious bracelets on the market.

Here are a few tips for ensuring the longevity of your Rolex Jubilee bracelet:
• Clean and polish your Jubilee bracelet regularly with high-quality cleaning materials that are specifically meant for jewellery. One of the most common issues with Rolex Jubilee Bracelets is the stretch that they can develop over time; this is in part down to dirt wearing down the pins, which can be minimised with thorough and periodic cleaning, ideally with jewellery specific cleaning materials.
• Invest in professional maintenance and care services from a qualified professional. Rolex will not fix the stretch of a Jubilee bracelet, but rather replace the entire bracelet.
• Store your Jubilee bracelet in a safe environment, such as a jewellery box or safe. This is the best way to keep it dust, scratch and mark-free.
• Tighten your bracelet properly. Due to the nature of the links on a Jubilee bracelet, the looser it is worn, the more movement is allowed between the links, which contributes to accelerated wear.
• Don’t store your bracelet with other jewellery pieces, as this can cause scratches. Ideally store your watch or bracelet in it’s original Rolex box
• Don’t wear your bracelet while engaging in extensive physical activity. Rolex Jubilee bracelets are notoriously susceptible to stretch and unnecessary wear will only accelerate this.
• Avoid cleaning or polishing your bracelet with household products, as they may damage the material and gold plating. While others may recommend household products or solutions, we always advise jewellery specific cleaning products for the best results.
• Don’t wear your bracelet too loose. The tighter the bracelet fits on your wrist, the less movement in the links and vice versa; the looser the bracelet, the quicker and more likely it is to wear.
If you own one of the earlier iterations of the Jubilee bracelet, they are likely to require more care and attention due to the folded links used by Rolex in the past. As these links do not have the same durability as the more recent and stronger iterations, they are more susceptible to stretching and will require more delicate care.
Taking care of your bracelet not only maintains it’s appearance but also ensures that it continues to work at it’s optimum level – cleaning and polishing frequently, investing in professional care, and storing it properly will all help you keep your piece looking its best.
By following these dos and don’ts, you can ensure your Rolex Jubilee bracelet continues to both look good and function correctly for even longer!
