One thing that people love about luxury watches is the heft and weight they have. Even the lightest Rolex has a satisfying weight to it when compared to non-luxury timepieces. But how much does a Rolex weigh? There are certainly some models that are much heavier than others, and then there are lighter models.
Knowing the weight of a Rolex before purchasing isn’t something that everyone considers right away, but it’s a good metric to know. If you’re planning on wearing your Rolex often, it’s good to know how it will feel on your wrist. If you prefer something a little lighter, you might go for a different model than you would have otherwise. Also, fake Rolexes tend to be much lighter than the real thing. It’s an easy way to spot a fake if the Rolex is much lighter than it should be.
That’s why we’ve made this quick and handy guide for the weight of popular Rolex models. As always, if you’re in the market for a Rolex, BQ Watches can answer any questions you have and help you find the perfect one.

There are a variety of factors that may affect the weight of a Rolex. For instance, you might assume that dress watches would weigh more than sporting watches because of the heavier materials. And you’d be right. Or you might assume that sporting watches are heavier because of their typically larger case sizes. You’d be right too. In all honesty, it completely depends on the size of the case, the model of the watch, and the materials used. These factors all go into determining the weight of a Rolex.
For instance, a gold Day-Date might weigh more than a Submariner of the same size, but if that Day-Date is in stainless steel, the Submariner might weigh more. The vast variety of factors makes it difficult to say definitively if dress watches or sporting watches are heavier. However, there is one factor you can count on to hold true – the materials. Let’s talk about that next.
If you compare four Rolex watches that are the same model and case size, but the cases are made out of different metals, then which will be the heaviest? You can’t fake the weight of metal. With that in mind, Oystersteel will be the lightest metal you can get from Rolex. Silver is heavier than Oystersteel, and a gold Rolex watch will be heavier than silver. Finally, platinum will be the heaviest of the metals used in Rolex timepieces.
Additionally, Rolex does sometimes mix materials, such as their Rolesor, which is a patented mix of Oystersteel and gold. This would likely weigh more than your usual Oystersteel watch, but less than say, a yellow gold Rolex.
Now that we have the above caveats in mind, we can start looking at the weight of some of Rolex’s most popular models. As mentioned, these weights are general, and you can usually expect your Rolex to be very close to the listed weight below. However, the aforementioned factors also play a part, making the model weigh less or more than the numbers presented below.
With that being said, let’s take a look at some of the most popular Rolex watches and consider how much they weigh.
First is a favourite amongst Rolex collectors and fans of motorsports. The Rolex Daytona is the quintessential racing watch, providing a sporty aesthetic and a great variety of designs. Since these watches come in stainless steel, you can expect that there will be little variation in the weight.
Generally, you can expect a Rolex Daytona to weigh roughly 200 grams.
The Rolex Day-Date is a beautiful dress watch, with the signature date display and full day window on the dial. The Rolex Day-Date is often referred to as the President’s watch thanks to its prestige and the tendency of presidents, actors, musicians, and other celebrities to wear it.
The Rolex Day-Date is available in yellow gold, white gold, or platinum, so you can usually expect it to weigh roughly 179 to 225 grams depending on the material you choose.
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual model offers the most varied collection of sizes and precious metals in the Rolex catalogue, so it is difficult to generalize about the weight of this model. Oyster Perpetuals range in case size from 28mm to 41mm. They can be had in Oystersteel, yellow gold, white gold, and two-tone styles. So if you’d prefer a lighter Oyster Perpetual, you might consider a 28mm model in Oystersteel. Alternatively, a 41mm Oyster Perpetual in yellow gold will give you the most heft.
Generally, a Rolex Oyster Perpetual will weigh between 140 and 180 grams, but it could well be much more if it’s made out of heavier metals and features a larger case size.
The Rolex Sea-Dweller takes diving watches to the next level, reaching more impressive depths than the Submariner. It offers many specialized features, which contribute to its heft. For example, the Sea-Dweller features a helium escape valve and rotating bezel.
Additionally, there is an even more specialized version of the Sea-Dweller called the Deepsea, which adds even more features (and heft), such as the Glidelock clasp that allows the bracelet to fit over a dive suit.
The Rolex Sea-Dweller is available in stainless steel and two-tone, with weights ranging from 130 to 215 grams.
